Desert Architecture, Runway Madness (Spoiler!)

So, my mom's present arrived yesterday and I was just THRILLED. She had given me a gift certificate to Dick Blick
which pretty much allowed me to go mad with the drooling and the listing and the ORDERING. I got a huge set of the Caran D'ache Neocolor II crayons. These are water soluble wax pastels which work very nicely on fabric. In the picture above, A is on 140 lb watercolor paper and B was painted directly to the Vilene (experimenting) The others were on muslin. These will be for my architecture swap entitled "Desert Architecture" and it is a cross section of a cactus. I found some pictures online of the cross sections and was surprised to see that inside of the thorny cacti was that beautiful sunset pink color...it made me think..hmm...maybe abrasive people are like the cacti...prickly on the outside, but with beautiful centers, if we would all just take the time to get to know them and well, you know, chainsaw a cross section out of them so we could see it. I'm all for it, frankly.
(CAUTION: SPOILERS BELOW!)
Anyway, onto the fun part of our discussion tonight...Project Runway. For the FIRST time in this competition, I found myself thinking that Santino just HAD to go. I really like most of his designs and I think he is spot on in his ability to represent absolute femininity, (enough n's? too many?) But tonight, enough was enough. That skating costume was nearly unbearable. I am surprised that Sasha Cohen didn't literally vomit when the model came out! Not to mention the fact that the model looked as though SHE was about to vomit, just wearing it. Man, she was PISSED. She was about as pissed as I would have been wearing Zulema's Orange "Asscrack Showroom" (clothes off your back challenge) onto the runway. Anyway, as the discussion went on, it was OBVIOUS that it was going to be Emmett that they sliced and not Santino, and although I had been all for Santino going, I was also kind of glad he was staying. Can't help it! His stuff is just so pretty! Can you tell I'm partial to Ruching?

Love the watercolor crayon work. I have watercolor pencils I purchased but have not taken the time to play with them yet. I think I will have to take the time!!

I also got watercolor pencils not too long ago that I have used...you really need to bear down hard if you want to get a nice color, compared to the crayons. BUT, on the "con" side, I was catapulted back to age 4 when I was using the pink crayon for the first time and the damned thing broke (!!) right in half. I just sighed, cuz...why should anything change just because I'm some 30 years older? Maybe I can get revenge on my kids...have them all running around the house picking up all of MY broken crayons or removing them from creative places, such as the oven, The VCR, The Toaster, ETC. I'm gonna make a great senile old lady, man...

I've never done watercolor pencil work before. It's intriguing! I love Dick Blick. That catalog makes me drool.

As for Santino, I want him to stay a while longer, maybe to the final four, because he is so entertaining. Heather looked way PISSED to wear that. I still think the 'asscrack showroom' outfit was more demeaning though.

Being a cactus expert at work, i just love those cross sections! Everyone else hates our cacti dept---beauty is where you look for it though and cacti designs are spectacular!
