Pop..Pop..Popmusic (Yes, I still love 'M')

I realized that I haven't spoken a WHOLE lot about my musical interests here, like you CARE, but still. My musical taste falls somewhere between eclectic and totally embarrassing. I SO love punk/rap, like Limp Bizkit (but the older stuff, because...DAMN their latest stuff stinks!) and any bands that even delve into that genre like Linkin Park, Sugar Ray, Rage Against the Machine, Korn, etc (White girl rap) On an on-topic aside, did you know that Sugar Ray used to be a hardcore band before they got a record deal and sold out to the man? Believe it. Eh, I'm glad they did. Their music goes down REALLY easy to me. Also on my list is Ska music in almost ANY incarnation; Clash to Madness, Sublime to Bosstones...I love it all. Speaking of which, I have a tendency to love music that I'll never hear again because one or more of the band members are deceased (Think Sublime, Blind Melon, The Ramones..oh yeah, I guess The Clash reunion isn't gonna happen any time soon, either) Also, I will probably be stuck in the 80's for a long LONG time. My tastes back then ran from the bizarre to the inexplicable, Scritti Politti, Kajagugu, The Bangles. So, not SO bad, right? So, the embarrassing is that I am a total FREAK for Johnny Cash (See DEAD GUY reference above) and Willie Nelson. Most country music at BEST, leaves me uncomfortable and at worst, causes me to break down in sobs, because it's all so sad (The hair and chewing tobacco and all) but give me some Johnny and Willie and I'm a happy camper. It doesn't matter what, I'll even take their smarmiest stuff. This predeliction has more than once caused eyebrow raising consternation to my steel-guitar-hating husband. Fortunately for us, except for the C/W idiosyncracy and my secret love for hip-hop, we are probably the most musically compatible couple on the planet. We both LUUUVVVV us some Barry White (Although it doesn't put him in the mood, demmit) and for that matter, nearly all 70's funk, soul and R&B music. We're both nutty about the 80's stuff, although he's not so into the bubblegum stuff that I really used to love. I got him a Sirius Radio setup for Christmas and boy, there just isn't enough preset channels to encompass all of our tastes! So, what is the point? There is none, really, but feel free to share any marital musical issues or your most bizarre cravings (because I'm all about recruiting another quirk!)

Oh man, where do I begin???

I'm loving that new station Mike 93.7, because my musical tastes are so eclectic. I like everything from hardcore gangsta rap to pop to classical. The holy trinity of artists I like is Madonna, Mariah and Barbra Streisand. My husband loathes all three of them -- he loves classic rock. Think Styx, Kansas, Def Leppard, etc. He also loves artists from the '80s, like Duran Duran, Cheap Trick and Billy Squier. We've actually reached musical harmony: Hall and Oates. We see them at the Orpheum March 8. Yes, we are dorks.

Outta touch, outta touch...oh oh ohhhohh. My friend went to see Boy George (or was it Culture Club?) a few years back with HER husband and she felt the same way. And I'm right there with M on the Classic Rock front. (Holy Trinity: Led Zeppelin, Queen, Aerosmith)

Our music tastes seem pretty divergent, but I LOVE Johnny Cash and have for years. It only seems "cool" to say so now because of that nifty movie that came out last year...

Wow you like alot of the same things I do. And I too along with 80's, rock, etc. am a Johnny and Willie Freak.

Lately I have found I even like jazz...esp. Miles Davis.

Michele sent me, I like your site.

Well, despite my housewife exterior, I'm a rocker at heart. I love Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, Talking Heads and most hard rock. When my son first took an interest in such music (gosh, where did he get that?), I was happy to be the parental chaperone for concerts. Now my kids are aspiring musicians. I love that. Thanks for asking!

Michele sent me. Hope you're having a great day!

Zee: My Dad used to love Johnny Cash and country music, for that matter. I just remember that I found Johnny Cash's voice to be the most soothing of all the music he listened to.

Deana: I really WANT to like Jazz, but I find modern Jazz to be too abstract to enjoy. BUT, I love Louis Armstrong. I have always been a sucker for "What a Wonderful World" (it is the one song that will cause me to defy decency and sing out loud in front of anyone)

Karen: I can't tell you how fun it is to embarrass my kids on the road by cranking The Beastie Boys and going to town. I wish my kids would take more of an interest in making music, but they ARE learning to love the classics. My daughter went to visit her dad and downloaded a metric butt tonne of Journey, Kansas, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd etc. I said, "Oh, you like that sort of music?" She rolled her eyes up and said, "Of COURSE! A bunch of my friends and I really LOVE the oldies!" I don't think I'm quite ready for that :(

You have fantastic taste in music! We have a lot of likes in common. I've loved Johnny Cash since I was a little girl. I also enjoy a hard edge of music. My fave three 70's bands are Led Zep, the Beatles, and Pink Floyd. I just heard a new to me band called Soul Coughing, they're pretty funky and eclectic. And I love Matisyahu, I had no idea he was a Hassidic rapper til I read it here!
