The Lord Responds to Yesterday's Posting
Okay, even *I* am not stupid enough to ignore THIS connection. Yesterday evening, before I left for work (around 5:45pm) it started turning dark. Suddenly the sky was nearly black and the wind picked up. We heard a loud bang outside and my husband went to the front door to see that a column from our little front portico had been blown out. As he opened the door, an old maple, which had been imbedded in the sidewalk in front of this house for at least 80 years, suddenly just tore out of the ground! It crashed down into the streets and into the yards between our houses, but as we looked around, we realized it hadn't touched anything except the neighbor's small picket fence. The neighbor had been outside bringing in some potted plants out of the storm when the tree came down in front of her. The car in front of the roots is my husband's car. The tree's roots and the dirt brushed the grill as it came up, but no damage to the car. We were pretty lucky in all respects. We knew this tree was going to have to come out eventually...it had been hit by lightning, according to the previous owner and was rotting from the inside out. It is a wonder it hadn't come down before...it was a wonder it hadn't hit any cars or any houses or any people! One huge limb had come down in a storm a year or so ago and didn't hit anything, either. within 20 minutes of the tree coming down, DPW was there with chainsaws (in the midst of 2 inch hail pelting down and 50-60 mile per hour winds!) and this morning, when I arrived home, the tree was almost entirely broken down and chipped up by road crews. It is kind of sad...the previous owner, a nice (but probably a little on the 'tetched side) old guy
called the tree, "The family tree" and another old guy who lives up the street was telling us how they all used to climb this tree when they were kids.
Meanwhile, I HAD been busy answering an interview over at Sparkling Diamond's blog which was RUDELY interrupted by the ensuing power outage (the tree yanked a couple of wires in front of the house) so I am going to get over there to finish the interview. Oh, and I'm removing the horrible link in yesterday's post...I know I'm headed to hell, but I have no desire to punch my ticket early!
This was what I saw on my way into work:
Maybe there is hope for me after all :)

I am glad to see that the tree didn't hit anything. That is amazing! You were lucky indeed.
Michele sent me.
Tsk...tsk...wordnerd shakes her head and promises to save you a seat down there!
Good Grief! That is a hellacious tree in your yard! I am glad no one was hurt....or your cars!
Wow! Glad to hear no one was hurt.
The rainbow is an amazing photo and a bright reminder.
Here via Michele's.
Yikes!!
Glad no one was hurt.
Oh my gosh I have never seen anything like that tree being uprooted like that before! So scary. Good to hear that no one was hurt and that there is beauty and peace that comes after the storm.
Hi Robin!
That looks scary! Good nobody got hurt. Thank you for visiting my site and yes, it was great having you as a co-interviewee at SD's blog. Don't you just love it there?
OH my gosh! I am so glad that no one was hurt!! I had a similiar experience when a tornado touched down in ALBQ, NM when I lived there...decided to touch down on my house!
The huge trees in the front yard were yanked out as yours, as well as a tree falling into my LR. Tornado took the roof with it...but no one (I had three little ones) was hurt...was amazing to stand and view it all! Anyway...THANK YOU so much for the interview...I enjoyed learning more about you! And again, so glad you all are ok! Hope you have a much better day today! :)
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I just wanted to return the favor :) Always happy to meet another Who fan!
